Is This the Best Balcony on Explora Journeys? | Ocean Terrace Suite 6049 Tour
Not all balconies are created equal — even on a luxury ship like Explora I. During our six-night cruise, we stayed in what we think might be one of the best-located Ocean Terrace Suites on board: Cabin 6049.
We filmed a full walkthrough to show you the suite layout, the design touches that make Explora’s accommodations stand out, and, of course, that famous balcony view. Whether you’re deciding which suite category to book or just curious about what life looks like on board, this is a great place to start.
Ocean Terrace Suite Overview
The Ocean Terrace Suite is the entry-level accommodation on Explora Journeys — though “entry-level” feels like an understatement. At around 35 square metres (377 square feet) including the balcony, it’s larger than many mini-suites on other premium lines.

Inside, you’ll find elegant, neutral décor — soft greys, natural textures, and subtle lighting. The suite includes a separate seating area, a spacious walk-in wardrobe, and a bathroom with a large rain shower.

Everything feels designed for comfort and quiet luxury — more like a high-end hotel room than a typical cruise cabin.
Design, Comfort & Amenities
Explora Journeys has gone all-in on creating a “residential at sea” feel, and the Ocean Terrace Suite delivers exactly that. Everything feels curated — from the soft lighting and spacious seating area to the quiet hum of the air-conditioning (almost silent, even overnight).

Storage space is generous, with a full walk-in wardrobe and separate vanity area — ideal for longer sailings. The king-size bed has a view of the balcony, so you wake up to sea views rather than a wall, and the sofa area is large enough for in-suite dining if you don’t fancy dressing up.
There’s also a personal espresso machine, refillable Explora-branded water bottles, and small touches like a welcome tray and chilled water replenished daily.

Is It the Best Balcony Cabin on Explora I?
If outdoor space matters to you, this particular suite — 6049 on Deck 6 — is hard to beat. The balcony is deeper and the alcove is not present on the upper decks, meaning you get a view to the front of the ship that is only available on much more expensive cabins. During Sail aways and in Port, this made a real difference; we could still sit outside with a superb view across the whole ship.
That said, not every Ocean Terrace Suite is identical. The ship’s subtle curves mean some balconies are wider or narrower depending on position. It’s worth checking deck plans carefully before booking — or asking your travel agent for one of the mid-ship or slightly aft locations on Deck 6 or 7.
Compared with higher-category suites, the Ocean Terrace offers exceptional value. You’re getting the same core design, the same level of service, and almost the same space — without the higher fare.
In short, yes — this is one of the best balcony cabins on Explora I if you value the views, shelter, and a peaceful location near the centre of the ship.

Final Thoughts
Explora Journeys has created something genuinely elegant with its Ocean Terrace Suites. They combine modern design with traditional cruise comfort — spacious, serene, and designed for travellers who appreciate details.
If you’re planning a sailing on Explora I, and you want a balcony that you’ll actually use (not just admire from indoors), look for one of the larger or alcove rooms like 6049. It’s a quiet little upgrade within the same price class — and for us, one of the most enjoyable spots on the ship. Just dont smoke on it!

We also recently stayed in an MSC Balcony Cabin on MSC Bellissima, while different it certainly punches well above its price weight and gave us a lot of pause for thought!
