Explora Journeys Entertainment Review — Nights in the Main Lounge on Explora I
One of the most common questions about Explora Journeys is whether there’s enough to do on board once the sun goes down. With its focus on relaxed luxury rather than big-ship bustle, some travellers wonder if evenings might feel a little too quiet.
During our six-night cruise on Explora I, we decided to film and share what entertainment actually looks like in the main lounge — the heart of the ship after dark. From live singers and themed nights to the occasional surprise performance, this is what you can realistically expect if you’re sailing with Explora.
Explora I’s main lounge isn’t a glitzy theatre or a high-energy show venue. Instead, it’s a chic, open space with an elegant bar, soft lighting, and a stage framed by sea views. Think of it less as Las Vegas at sea and more like an upscale hotel lounge — live music, good cocktails, and a sophisticated atmosphere that fits the line’s quieter, boutique style.

Over the course of the week, we caught six different evenings of entertainment, each designed around a loose theme. It’s an interesting mix — professional musicians and vocalists rather than the large production shows you’d see on other luxury lines.
We also spotted a YouTuber on board see if you can spot him in the video or check out their channel in the link below as well.
The Entertainment Line-Up
Across six nights, we saw:
- Motown Night – a lively opener with familiar classics that had a few guests up dancing by the end.
- Craig Richard – a singer-saxophonist whose smooth mix of jazz and pop fit the relaxed setting perfectly – Also the night we had the Anthology dinner
- Kerry Ellis – West End performer known for Wicked and Les Misérables, singing show tunes with real presence.
- Billy Joel Night – strong vocals and piano, particularly popular with the crowd.
- Dance Performance – contemporary choreography, polished and unexpected on a ship this size.
- Party Songs Night – upbeat finale with the band and singers letting loose a little.
There’s no big rotating stage or laser light show — it’s all about small-scale, high-quality live performances in a stylish, intimate setting.

Beyond the Main Lounge – Other Entertainment on Board
While the main lounge is the centrepiece of Explora I’s evening entertainment, there’s actually more variety across the ship than you might expect at first glance.
During our sailing, there were live musicians scattered throughout the public areas — from a pianist in the atrium to acoustic sets in smaller bars. The atmosphere is more “boutique hotel” than “cruise production,” but the talent level was consistently high.

For those who prefer a bit of interaction, Explora does offer the classic cruise activities:
- Quizzes and trivia sessions during sea days.
- Fitness and wellness classes in the impressive spa and gym area.
- Talks from destination experts about the ports of call and regional culture.
- Karaoke nights (yes, even on a luxury cruise!) and a resident DJ for late-night dancing.
There’s also a more exclusive side to the entertainment offering, including brandy and cigar tastings and other premium experiences that come with an additional cost. These sessions are clearly aimed at those who enjoy the finer things and want something a bit different from the usual cruise evening lineup.

Our Take – Elegant, but a Little Too Safe
Overall, Explora Journeys’ entertainment feels refined, polished, and very much in keeping with the brand’s understated luxury image. Everything is beautifully executed, the performers are talented, and the venues are comfortable and stylish.
That said, we both felt there was room for a little more variety. Six nights of lounge-style performances — no matter how good — start to blend together, especially if you’re used to the larger-scale productions found on lines like Celebrity or Royal Caribbean. A few themed events or more interactive evenings could go a long way toward making nights on board feel more memorable.
Explora is clearly still finding its rhythm. For guests who want quiet sophistication — a martini, some live jazz, and a conversation rather than a crowd — it’s ideal. But if you’re the kind of traveller who loves a bit of spectacle, it may feel too subdued.
We left feeling that the entertainment matched the ship’s overall philosophy: beautifully done, but sometimes a little too careful.

Final Thoughts
Would we have liked more variety? Definitely. But we also appreciated that Explora is carving out its own niche — offering a luxury cruise experience that feels more like staying in a stylish five-star hotel than being on a traditional cruise ship.
If you’re considering Explora I, expect evenings filled with smooth live music, good company, and elegant surroundings — just don’t expect Broadway-style shows or pool deck parties.
